Naming Celebrants and what they do.

Naming or Welcoming ceremonies conducted by a Civil Celebrant are a meaningful and fulfilling experience not only for the Parents but for all those attending the ceremony.  At all times in history, birth has been seen as a miraculous event to be celebrated ~ a symbol of new life/hope and an occasion when the child can be welcomed into the wider community.

The arrival of a new member of the family is a significant event. Ceremonies to mark the occasion can be individually compilied to reflect the wishes of the parents in making a statement of welcome to the child before family and friends.  Some parents feel that a religious christening is not suitable, but still wish to provide a formal welcome and bestow the chosen names upon their child.  Godparents, Mentors or Guardians may also be appointed at this ceremony.

Godparents are a matter of choice rather than compulsory.  There is no minimum are requirement, but it is preferable that the person/s chosen understand the possible implications of what is being asked of them.  Consider the role that you would like your chosen godparents to play in the life of your child and ensure they are prepared to accept any possible responsibilities before appointing them.
