So you have made that wonderful decision to marry ~ Congratulations to you both. The Wedding Ceremony is clearly, and should be, the most important part of the celebration, so it is worthy of your full attention when you are developing it. Think of it as a small but important commitment as you prepare for your "big" day. On your wedding day you will want a ceremony that will be a treasured memory for many years to come ~ a ceremony that inspires and deeply touches you both and everyone present. It is an emotional experience for the Bride and Groom and those fortunate enough to be part of it. Apart from the legal requirements there are no hard and fast rules on what can be included. Some wedding ceremonies are elaborate and formal ~ others consist of just the couple and their witnesses or a small group of family and friends who celebrate in a relaxed and informal manner. The choice is entirely up to the Bride and Groom.. You can also choose the venue, time and content of your ceremony. What do I need to do first? Contact your preferred Celebrant. It is important that you make this your first priority before making other bookings, such as Reception Venues or Photographers. How much notice do I need to give? The Marriage Act requires at least one clear calendar months notice, most celebrants would appreciate more notification than this. Celebrants diaries fill quickly during the "Dry Season" [May to October] in the Northern Territory. Who can witness our Signatures on the back of the Notice of Intended Marriage [NIM]. Your Celebrant can do this, but there are also other persons listed on the back of the NIM who can act in this role as well. This may be necessary if you live in a remote area or Interstate and wish to marry in Katherine or surrounds. |
